(LEHMANN FAMILY). Two thick binders of c. 300 letters, mostly written between family members, especially Bertil Lehmann; to and from his parents, grandparents, other relatives and friends.
Written in German, Swedish and English, occasionally Yiddish and Hebrew.
Some wear, housed in old binders.

Bertil Lehmann is an exceptionally interesting and entertaining correspondent. His letters span three distinct periods:
* Letters written from “Kibbutz Skibstrup, ” Aalsgaarde, Denmark, 1935-37.
* Letters written from Yeshivath Mir, Poland, 1937-39.
* Letters written from New York, 1939-43.
Each period provides unique, detailed information of a particular social and community setting: The miniscule Orthodox Jewish community of Sweden; the intense piety of the Mir Yeshiva; and the multiplicity of new opportunities afforded Bertil and his brother Manfred upon immigrating to the United States.
Letters include much that details efforts to bring over to the United States, relatives and friends still in occupied Europe (and Japan).
